Whenever I think of my grandmother, Granny Pen, I think of crafting. Knitting, crochet, sewing, she did it all, and was always working on something!

She knit several gorgeous cardigans, and wore them for many years. The designs were absolutely timeless and the most amazing part is, she never used a pattern. She just knit the most intricate cable patterns off the top of her head. Nowadays with Ravelry and the world wide web we are pretty spoiled with a world of patterns to pick from but 40+ years ago, without the almighty internet I guess a few magazines and your own imagination were the only option.

I always admired my grandmother’s knitting skills in those cardigans and so I decided to capture some of those amazing cable patterns my grandmother made in this sock design.

The name Rice Pudding stems from very happy childhood memories. Whenever I would sleep over at my grandparents, my breakfast of choice would be rice pudding, which my gran loved just as much as I do! So it was easy that this second pair should be named after that!

This pattern is published in honour of my grandmother, on what would have been her 91st birthday. She passed away in February 2021 and is missed dearly. With these sock patterns (Sleepover last year, and now Rice Pudding) I want to capture her knitting legacy so her gorgeous designs won’t be forgotten.
